The infotainment website of Euskal Irrati Telebista, the Basque Public Radio & Television, will become eitb.eus, leaving the domain eitb.com that has been used for over 15 years.

The process started officially last weekend with the joint presentation organised by FundaciónPuntuEus about all web initiatives in Basque and/or pioneering Basque culture, which brought together a hundred institutions, media, sports clubs, political parties, cultural associations, trade unions and social groups.

So, after finalising the acquisition of the domain .eus, the contents of the Public Communication Basque Group will be accessible by typing eitb.eus in the browser's navigation bar. For now, it will redirect the user to eitb.com homepage, where the contents will be located until the change is complete.

The process already started is scheduled to end by the end of this year with the migration of the entire domain and direct access to eitb.eus in all pages of the website.

Coordinated work and other experiences

To perform the migration with guarantees, a multidisciplinary working group is being coordinated, covering aspects as diverse as optimisation in web search engines, its appearance in ETB sets and copyrights, its use in stationery, changes in multimedia content management system, its social network application, the analytical structure or change in the addresses of corporate web mail, among many other things.

For this, EiTB's own analysis and that of its collaborators, other similar experiences have been taken into account, like that of Catalan radio and television when it changed from .com to .cat, or that undergone by Mundo Deportivo newspaper, which changed from .es to .com.

With internal analysis and the experience of others, a work schedule has been established that is expected to finish later this year, leaving the beginning of 2015 for the usual tweaks that large technological projects experience during the first weeks of production commissioning at full capacity.

It needs to be kept in mind that the EiTB website has hundreds of categories and different types of multimedia content and offers a service used by more than 100,000 people every day, according to the latest audience data.
