Basque Interior Minister Rodolfo Ares expressed his hope that the conference held in Donostia-San Sebastian by Lokarri will require ETA "in a clear and fim way“ to abandon "all terrorist activities."

In a press conference held in Bilbao on the occasion of a collaboration agreement between the Basque Government and the Red Cross, Ares indicated that the obstacle to achieve peace is the existence of ETA. He has indicated that the PSE will attend the conference to argue that "it needs to demand ETA to abandon all terrorist activities and dissolve."

The Minister of Interior has predicted that "we will see the end of terrorism soon, and this will not be a gift, but a consequence of the strength of the rule of law, the policy of democratic firmness and zero tolerance, civic resistance to terrorism, the example of the victims and the delegitimization of the totalitarian tenets who supported ETA. "

Convened by the Basque Citizen Network for Agreement and Consultation, Lokarri, the International Contact Group (GIC) led by South African lawyer Brian Currin and four other international foundations, the conference in San Sebastian targets to promote a resolution to the Basque conflict.

Also invited to participate in next Monday’s International Peace Conference are MPs and political leaders from around the world, including ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s former Cabinet Head, Jonathan Powell.
