Unemployment up by 29,300 people in Basque Country in 2012

According to the National Statistics Institute, the total number of people out of work in the Basque Country went up to 162,800 people.

The number of people signing on as unemployed in the Basque Country increased by 29,300 people in 2012, the equivalent of a 21.96% increase. According to the National Statistics Institute, the total number of people out of work in the Basque Country went up to 162,800 people (15.92%).

In Navarre, the number of people signing on as unemployed went up to 52,600 people, 17.15 percent of the working population.

Figures for the last three-month period of 2012 revealed that the number of people signing on as unemployed in the Basque Country increased by 5,100 people, an increase of 3.22 percent compared to the previous three-month period.

The biggest unemployment rate in the Basque Country was in Araba (18.3 %, 29,000 people), followed by Bizkaia (17.15 % and 94.300 people) and Gipuzkoa (12.59 % and 39,500 people).
