Spanish footballer Gerard Pique confirms relationship with Shakira

Gerard Pique has confirmed his relationship with pop star Shakira following a request from Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, who said that constant rumors over the relationship were affecting the Catalonian side.

Pique posted a photo of himself with the Colombian star on his Facebook profile. In the photo, Pique appears alongside Shakira, Puyol, Malena Costa and some other friends celebrating his birthday.

According to the media, a photo of the Barca defender and Shakira together has become one of the most sought after images, and could fetch up to €150,000.

Shakira was previously in a stable relationship with Argentinean Antonio de la Rua, who is 37, while 23-year-old Pique, was model Nuria Tomas'' boyfriend. They both split up with their couples in January.

Pique is currently playing as a central defender for FC Barcelona, and formerly played for the Manchester United, where he had his debut in 2004. He played an integral role in the Spain side that won the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
