Hit by recession
The number of people officially registered as unemployed in the Basque Country was 171,069 people as the country's recession shows few signs of abating.

The number of people signing on as unemployed in the Basque Country increased by 2,991 people in November, the equivalent of a 1.78% increase. According to the Spanish Ministry of Work and Immigration, the total number of people out of work rose to 171,069 across the whole Community.
Year-on-year figures for the Basque provinces of Alava, Biscay and Gipuzkoa revealed an increase of 18.00%, the equivalent of 26,095 more jobless than in November 2011.
Unemployment in Navarre rose by 856 people in November, a 1.68% increase compared to October, raising the total number of jobless to 51,849.
According to Government records, year-on-year figures show a rise of 13.1% in Navarre, the equivalent of 6,010 more jobless than in the same month of 2011.
