The San Sebastian International Film Festival will this year launch a new section to recover to the spirit of old double screenings in district cinemas, featuring genre movies including horror, fantasy, wacky comedies, irreverent or erotic suggestions, among other possibilities.

Under the name of "Midnight showings", the opening session of this section will be dedicated to the pinku-eiga (erotic movies) brought by the Japanese production company, Nikkatsu.

Starting at 12 midnight, the Zinemaldi will screen the documentary by Yves Montmayeur (France), entitled Pinku Eiga. Inside the Pleasure Dome of Japanese Erotic Cinema, followed by two realpinku-eigas.

In Pinku Eiga. for the first time, a filmmaker delves into the world of Japanese erotic cinema carrying the name of pinku-eiga.

Specifically, in the series of cult films produced by Nikkatsu from 1971 to 1988, although the first movies in the genre made their appearance as far back as 1960 with the title of Japanese domestic cinema in the continuous endeavour to avoid censorship.

It was the big studios that injected these movies with great doses of violence, creating subgenres like bondage. Today many of these titles are considered to be cult movies in the radical political and pop culture fields. The film asks key figures of this popular cinema to tell the camera about their part in the adventure.
