Members of the ruling Basque Socialist Party PSE will attend a peace conference to be held in Donostia-San Sebastian next week, a spokesman for the PSE announced on Thursday.

PSE spokesman Jose Antonio Pastor did not mention which members of the party would attend the conference.

Iñaki Arriola, a regional leader of the Basque Socialists, had said earlier this week his party would not be present at the conference.

Convened by the Basque Citizen Network for Agreement and Consultation, Lokarri, the International Contact Group (GIC) led by South African lawyer Brian Currin and four other international foundations, the conference in San Sebastian targets to promote a resolution to the Basque conflict. Also invited to participate in next Monday’s International Peace Conference are MPs and political leaders from around the world, including ex-British Prime Minister Tony Blair’s former Cabinet Head, Jonathan Powell.
