Unemployment down 1.16% in Basque Country, drops to 169,083 people

The number of people signing on as unemployed in the Basque Country went down by 1,986 people in December, the equivalent of a 1.16 % decrease.

According to the Spanish Ministry of Work and Immigration, the total number of people out of work dropped to 169,083 across the whole Community.

Year-on-year figures for the Basque provinces of Alava, Biscay and Gipuzkoa revealed an increase of 16.29%, the equivalent of 23,689 more jobless than in December 2011.

Unemployment in Navarre rose by 95 people in December, a 0.18% increase compared to November, raising the total number of jobless to 51,944.

According to Government records, year-on-year figures show a rise of 10.65% in Navarre, the equivalent of 4,998 more jobless than in the same month of 2011.
