Catalan swimmer Belmonte won Spain’s first medal at this year’s Olympics. China’s Liuyang Jiao took gold in the 200m butterfly race.

Catalan swimmer Mireia Belmonte García won silver in the women’s 200 metres butterfly on Wednesday winning Spain’s first medal at this year’s Olympic Games, and the country’s fourth ever for swimming.
With just one lap to go Belmonte was leading in Wednesday’s race, but China’s Liuyang Jiao stormed home in the final seconds to take gold and set a world record. Belmonte’s time of 2:05.25 is national record for Spain.
Japan’s Natsumi Hoshi came in third to claim bronze.
