The president of the Association for Victims of Terrorism (AVT) Ángeles Pedraza, and of the group Dignity and Justice, Daniel Portero, have called on Spanish parliamentary groups to include a text in the new Victims of Terrorism law that will rule out any renewed dialogue or negotiation with ETA.

Representatives of the various associations and collectives for victims of terrorism appeared on Tuesday before a Congressional Committee to present their recommendations and suggestions regarding the new text of the latest comprehensive victims'' law, which is currently pending in the lower House.

"The political forces should be committed to (including) a foreword in the law that says that no new congressional resolution will ever again exist that authorises the initiation of a process of negotiation with ETA," demanded Portero in reference to the parliamentary resolution of May 2005 (which led to Zapatero''s government entering into talks with ETA).

He was backed up by Ángeles Pedraza (of AVT) who requested that the preamble to the new law make it perfectly clear that "no (government) may negotiate with terrorists" nor "pay any political price" in the name of peace.

The president of the Association of Security Forces and State Victims of Terrorism, Francisco Zaragoza, meanwhile, dubbed as "humiliating" and an "affront" the fact that the current text agreed by parliamentary groups makes no explicit mention of murdered officers of the law (police or civil guards).

"We believe we deserve better care from state leaders," complained Zaragoza, who pointed out that police and civil guards go "to work" not "to be killed".
