On Tuesday afternoon, French police arrested Jon Goio and Ibai Aguirrebarrena, Basque language newspaper Berria reported in its online edition.

According to the paper, Jon Goio (originally from Tolosa) was arrested at midday on Tuesday though there is no further information. Goio had spent several years living in the Basque French region of Lapurdi and was originally arrested in 2009 for failing to appear before the High Court.

Jon Goio Jiménez Morales was part of a work group dedicated to the logistics, transport and delivery of materials that was in charge of collecting and delivering a rocket launcher intended for an attack on the then Spanish Government President, Jose Maria Aznar during the Basque regional election campaign in 2001.

According to the National Court Judge Fernando Grande-Marlaska, Pedro María Olano and Juan María Mujica also formed part of the group. In 2006, after a period of inactivity, this commando made fresh contact with the armed organization. Mujica was in charge of contacting ETA "through frequent visits" made to Jon Goio in the south of France. The activity of this commando ended at the start of 2008 when Mújica fled to France.

The second arrest was on Ibai Agirrebarrena, detained on Tuesday morning in Bayonne (Lapurdi) and subsequently taken to Bidaxune (Nafarroa Beherea) where police conducted a search of his home.

Agirrebarrena was first arrested in June 2009, along with eleven others, as part of an police investigation into attacks on tourist and real estate interests registered in Iparralde (French Basque Country). On May 10th, he was released on bail.
